David Wolter, a story artist at Dreamworks takes us through his short film process and how it came together to win his the student Academy Award this year. David also talks about what it takes to be a successful story artist at Dreamworks and gives advice to students who are pursing work in that career track. Some of his advice is to watch films frame by frame ,drawing from it and when you see a particular cut, ask yourself why they made that particular cut. David did his own independent study at Cal Arts for 3 hours a week watching “The Incredibles” frame by frame and drawing from the film. Hear about more of his advice on the video below.
