Sean Cheetham Alla Prima Portrait Workshop June 24th-28th

This Workshop will focus on learning to paint a portrait from life. The Instructor will be going over composition, drawing, likeness, organizing your palette, color mixing, value, edges, and producing a completed portrait. This will consist of one day costumed or semi- nude poses. Students can work in any media. Instructor will be working in oil.
Sean Cheetham uses a very distinct palette, called a “mud-Palette” when working on Alla-Prima Portraits. This palette will be discussed extensively throughout the workshop. The benefits of working with this palette are value and color control. Harmony and unity in you final piece and a simple step by step process to painting alla-prima portraits. Don’t miss this opportunity to study with one of the great Portrait Painters of this time.

We are very pleased and honored to have the Director and Crew from Walt Disney Animation Studio’s latest 2D feature film, The Princess and The Frog, featured in our gallery.
They will be here for a panel discussion, presentation, Q and A as well as a book signing.
Speakers in attendance are: John Musker (Director), Ian Gooding (Art Director), Lorelay Bove (Visual Development), Randy Haycock (Supervising Animator), Josie Trinidad (Story Artist)

Marvel Entertainment, Inc., one of the world’s most prominent character-based entertainment companies with a library of over 5,000 proprietary characters, will be reviewing portfolios of artists, inkers, and colorists for potential future work at the House of Ideas. All creators interested in having their portfolio reviewed should bring copies of their artwork (no originals) to Long Beach Comic Con Meeting Room D by 6 pm on Friday, 10/2.

“The Art of Up” Artist Panel and Book Signing with Ronnie Del Carmen

Artist Ronnie Del Carmen will be visiting us from San Francisco on Saturday, May 30th, to talk about his work on the upcoming Disney•Pixar film “Up” where he served as story supervisor & lead story artist. Ronnie will show a short slide presentation and participate in a Q and A session.

He will also be signing copies of “The Art of UP” and his new books “My Name is Dug” and “There You Are.”

Ronnie Del Carmen:
Is currently a storyboard artist at Pixar and has contributed to such films as Finding Nemo, Ratatouille and Prince of Egypt just to name a few.

By day, Robert Goodin works in the animation industry on shows like Rugrats, As Told by Ginger, The Wild Thornberrys and American Dad. By night, he’s a comics artist/illustrator whose work has appeared in McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern, Mome, Project: Romantic and for the Los Angeles Metro Transit Association. The Man Who Loved Breasts is his first stand alone comic book. If all goes well, my new comic The Man Who Loved Breasts will be released into comic stores on Wednesday. The next day I’ll be signing copies of it at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood. I should also have copies of my mini comics as well as the issues of Mome I’ve been in as well as the anthology Typhon that I was recently in. It’ll all start at 7 and I’m not sure when it will end. Meltdown closes at 10, so probably close to then. Asahi Beer sponsors these events, so you can have a beer too. The next day I’ll be traveling to the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland that runs the weekend of Oct 4th and 5th. I’ll be signing copies of the comic at Top Shelf’s booth all weekend. I’m going to bring some of my minis and postcards that you can pick up there as well. Hopefully I’ll see you at one of these events. If I see you at both, you’re some kind of rock star. Baby Tattooville provides a unique opportunity for a small group of celebrated artists and serious collectors to spend time together in a relaxed yet creatively stimulating environment.
