LAAFA Glenn Vilppu Class and Upcoming Workshops

Forward this message to a friend

Glenn Vilppu

is THE artist’s artist!

He is a Los Angeles phenomenon. Almost all LA professional artists have studied under him at one time or another… and he is here at LAAFA for 7 weeks.

Come study with Glenn and improve your drawing

Thursdays, Aug 6th-Sept 17th

12-3pm ($420) or 12-6pm ($635)

This is how Glenn structures the class:

The first 15 minutes begin with quick gesture drawings. The warm ups will be followed by a lecture, usually 30 to 45 minutes. The lecture includes demonstrations by Mr. Vilppu.  Outside of the lecture, all class time is spent in drawing from the model. Mr. Vilppu works with each student on an individual basis and at their particular artistic level.

At the end of class, all students are given copies of the lectures, the demos, and other materials covered in class.

4-Day Process of Sculptural Creation Workshop

Fri.-Mon., Aug 7th-10th, 10AM-5PM

$450

Come to this workshop and find out how David Simon takes a sculptural idea through to a completed finished work. From idea to sketch to photography to model choice to maquette/sketch to armature creation to final execution- all will be covered. In addition, you will be able to work from the model yourself, making quick sketches in clay. It’s a crash course in sculpture and one that every person interested in 3D modelling should take.

4-Day Workshop

Capturing the Essence-From Drawing to Painting

Wed.-Sat., August 5th-8th, 10AM-4PM

$475

This 4-day workshop is a comprehensive and progressive study of the human form and the portrait painted Alla Prima. Capturing the essence of the pose, as well as movement and expression using composition, color temperature, and fluid brushwork will be emphasized.

Day 1 will be tonal figure drawing in charcoal starting with gestures and moving toward a more finished 2 hr. drawing by the end of class. We will be “painting” with charcoal using a variety of tools such as charcoal pencils, loose charcoal powder and painting brushes.

Day 2 will be quick color gestures of the human figure. This is an excellent way to improve accurate color mixing and fluid brushwork. Several small paintings will be done this day as preparation for day 3.

Day 3 will be an all-day figure painting from the model.

Day 4 will be an all-day portrait sitting as an in-depth study of the human face.

Michelle will demo, paint along with the class, and give one-on-one instruction.

All levels of students are welcome! There is something every person can learn at every level.

1-Day Seminar Methods & Materials of Oil Paints

Saturday, Aug 22nd, 10AM-5PM

$125

After more than 700 hundred years, oil painting is still the ultimate artist’s medium. More than any other artist’s medium, knowledge of its materials is the key to unlocking its vast potential for expression. Yet, little comprehensive information is readily available, and what is found is often confusing, contradictory, and even shrouded in mystery and secrecy. This one day intensive seminar on oil painting materials offers the kind of in-depth knowledge necessary to explore and tame this medium. It will cover pigments, the five types of oil paint, mediums, additives, thinners, and varnishes. It will also offer solutions to working safely as well as how to produce artwork that will last for generations.

All of these workshops are limited in space, so don’t miss out!  Call now to enroll.

Call to register at 818.708.9232 or sign up at http://www.laafa.org/
