I attended CSULB in 1977. I was a tortured but grateful student of John Lincoln. I met Dick Oden and was amazed by his work. I know he illustrated for Westways Magazine around that time. Westways was published by AAA of California. Here is a link to a website that has some of his biology illustrations. http://ajourneyroundmyskull.blogspot.com/2008/09/biology-today-richard-oden.html

Good luck,

Robert,
I was also a student of Dick Oden (as well as Ernie Kohler and John Lincoln) in 1970 at CSULB. At the time he was doing a lot of illustrations for Psychology Today. You might try to locate some old issues of this magazine during that time period. He was an amazing drafts person and technically off the charts. Good luck finding some of his work.

Hey Lalo,

One of the craziest things about Dick Oden is that he has almost no presence on the web. I've accumulated some photocopies of his work over the years, and am always looking for more. I'm tempted to start scanning some of it and posting it on my blog. If I do, I'll post another comment here.

Robert,
I to was mentored by Oden. And as your wrote, he was a fantastic draughtsman. I could only compare to likes of german renaiasance(spelling) masters.
If there are any groups that involve Dick Oden, I would love to be a part of.
my E is reyn66@msn.com

Hello Shiho! I'll definitely be at Comic Con in the small press area. Anthony will be roaming around as well.

Ted Wilson - Yes. It is a very small studio and sadly I'm moving to an apartment with an even smaller closet.

Hi Rob,

Congrats on being interviewed by illustration.org! Since I'm a Program Chair for Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles (SILA) this year, I comb through the net to be current, and found you here! Thanks for reminding me about good ol' CSULB days with Dick Oden and David Hadlock. I'll be volunteering at Comic-Con booth for SILA, and will be going to NYC for Illustration Conference - if I don't see you then, hope I hear from you around town and in cyberspace.

Best,

Shiho
